// Bring on the Watercolours!//

This is the first proper piece of watercolour painting that I have done in a long time, and for a skill that hasn’t seen the light of day in a while I’m quite pleased with how it has come out. The initial

// Initial Drawings //

These were taken from the first page of initial ideas in my sketchbook. These ideas were put together from my previous research into art styles and war photographs. These jumble of ideas take roots from many different subject from ruins to symbolism. In connection to some of my earlier research I’ve also experimented with the theme of Vanitas in my work, which quite symbolistic in its own, I’ve combined with symbolism.

// Bit of Sketchbook Work//

Here’s one of the standard pages from my sketchbook. This particular page is on research into fine art, mainly on different terminology and also varying art themes such as Vanitas and Memento Mori. This part of the sketchbook was more to do with research and exploring different styles of artwork in the run up to my own pieces and study.

Theres are lastest pages in my sketchbook, this is when i began to use my anger as means to drive my work. Even though I was angry the whole time while doing this page I am happy with the outcome

// And so Begins the Fingerpainting//

Basically one life drawing class I got a bit bored with my usual materials and just spontaneously started smearing paint all over my paper. The results are below. This was a technique that I grew to really enjoy. I worked without guidelines and just randomly started anywhere, not worrying about he fact that she could have been out of proportion or wrong. I just let the mismatching colours build up the figure as wel as the tones.

The camera cannot lie
Interesting quote from a book that I’m currently reading called ‘Glass Warriors: The Camera at War’. Basically about War Photographers and the dangers that they place themselves in in order to get a good photo. The quote refers to the belief held by the Victorians upon the development of the camera and it’s introduction into journalism. Quite an interesting read.
